C-05 Concrete Repair Kit Schmooze Kit™ Description : A 99.5% solids, two component high performance concrete repair product that may be troweled or brushed on existing concrete to repair surface defects such as spalling, salt damage, discoloration, stone pops, abrasive damage, poor drainage, etc.. Product is not affected by de-icing salts or freeze-thaw cycles. This system requires the use of of a concrete pre-conditioner for optimum performance. Q: What is the difference between the C-05 cool weather hardener and the regular kit?A: The cool weather kit uses a different hardener formulation that is better suited to cooler temperatures. The resin side A and other components remain unchanged.Q: What can I expect with the cool weather hardener? Will it cure faster in cold weather?A: A faster cure time is less dependent on the hardener and more dependent on how you work with the materials. Pay close attention to the guidelines below.Q: How should I work with the cool weather kit to optimize its performance?A: The following parameters must be followed to insure that you will get expected results:1) Temperatures of the kit resin and hardener and other components should be kept above 65 degrees F immediately prior to use. 70 degrees F is ideal. Surface to be applied to should be dry and above the dew point, and at least 50 F (10 C), and rising.2) After the hardener is mixed with the resin, use a non-contact IR thermometer to watch theinitial reaction event (this is called pre-induction, which produces exotherm, or heat through the chemical reaction of the hardener and resin mixed together).3) The steps below should be followed:
1. Start with the resin and hardener temperatures as indicated above.2. Mix the hardener and resin together. Sit the container on a surface that does not drawout energy. Avoid cold concrete. A piece of cardboard is good, as it provides some insulation on the bottom of the container from the cold ground. Keep from wind.3. Measure the temperature with your IR thermometer.4. Every three minutes, stir the contents again, and retake the temperature. Always stir well before measuring temperature, to make sure any variations of temperature in the container are blended and averaged. Work in the sun, not in the shade if possible. This initial temperature rise desired may take more than 10 minutes to appear.5. When you measure a FOUR DEGREE F (2.2 Deg. C) or more rise in temperature from your starting point, the material is ready to use. Add the sand as outlined in the standard instructions, and proceed with application. Never add sand before the reaction starts and the temperature rises, as it will slow down the process.6. If you plan to continue through several kits, DO NOT USE ALL THE CONTENTS of the first mix. Leave about ¾ “ to 1” of material mixture (which includes the sand) in the bottom and continue immediately to add and mix the next units of hardener and resin into that container. Mix thoroughly. This prior ¾ to 1 “ serves to “seed” the next mix, so you don't have to wait for the induction time. Make sure your next units your mix meet the starting temperature requirements (65-70F). You can continue to follow that procedure as long as the mix you made has about eight to ten minutes of aged pot life, so it can properly “seed” the next batch.7. Repeat the process. You can mix a seeded batch and monitor the temperature rise again using your IR thermometer as an “insurance” policy. The temperature rise should happen more quickly than the initial batch. If necessary, wait until the temperature rise occurs again, then you know the material is ready to use.It is important to understand that initiating the mix and watching for the temperature rise is the indication itwill cure properly. The cool weather hardener on its own will not guarantee a proper cure if you do not allow pre-induction time. If you place a thin film on a cold surface prior to initiating a reaction, the cold surface will act as a heat sink, and will not allow any exotherm to occur, which is necessary to start the curing reaction. Other options include the use of a torpedo heater, directed at the work area from as distance to provide some warmth, or infra-red curing lamps. Temperatures at the surface produced by your heat source should not exceed 95F. Use your IR non-contact device to monitor the condition.The cool weather hardener performs better in cool weather because the reaction time to start induction while the product is in mass is speeded up. The cool weather hardener may also be used in place of the regular hardener when using the kit in warmer temperatures, although pot life will be reduced.
